Texas-based coffee co-packing company NuZee has acquired single-serve, single-use pourover maker Dripkit for $860,000 in cash and stocks.

DCN first reported on the launch of Brooklyn, New York-based Dripkit in 2017, just prior to the startup securing nearly $30,000 through Kickstarter for an initial production run with partnering roaster City of Saints in Red Hook.

The Dripkit product involves an upright three-sided cardboard triangle that holds 17 grams of ground coffee in a filter pouch designed to sit atop mugs for single 10-ounce pourover brews.

The company has since expanded its product line to include Dripkit offerings of coffees from numerous roasters in the specialty coffee category, including names such as Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Verve Coffee Roasters, Sisters Coffee and Café Unido.

Through the acquisition, Dripkit will now operate as a new business division within NuZee under the name Dripkit Coffee. Additionally, Dripkit Co-Founder and CEO Ilana Kruger is joining the NuZee “team,” according to NuZee.

Based in Plano, NuZee provides co-packing and private-label services for coffee roasters big and small while specializing in both single-use pourover and tea-bag-style steeping formats. The company also operates its own single-serve brands, Coffee Blenders and Twin Peaks Coffee.

NuZee’s marketing materials boast numerous sustainability claims, despite the focus on single-use, disposable brew solutions.

“This acquisition is expected to benefit both NuZee and Dripkit’s customers, as well as our partners giving all of us an opportunity to scale operations and grow together,” NuZee President and CEO Masa Higashida said in an announcement of the acquisition. “We look forward to expanding this growth and broadening our capabilities through our resources.”
