It's the big NFL story from the past hour or two, and many Buffalo Bills fans out there are just learning of the news.

Both Tom Pelissaro and Ian Rapaport of The NFL Network are reporting that longtime quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is retiring from the NFL after 17 seasons.

The rumors first started spreading, based on a tweet from Fitz's former teammate Fred Jackson.

Jackson screenshot a text from Fitzpatrick, which included a text from Fitz that said, "forever grateful for the magical ride."

Fitz retires with nearly 35,000 career passing yards. That's good for 32nd on the all-time list; ahead of names such as Tony Romo, Steve DeBerg, Steve Young, Jim Everett, Ken Anderson and yes, even Troy Aikman.

Fitz played for a host of NFL teams, but one of his best known stints were the four years he spent in Buffalo; including the magical 2011 start of 5-2. It's no secret he is one of the most beloved Bills players of all-time.

It looks like we will get more of Fitz in the coming months and possibly beyond, just not on the actual football field under center.

Ian Rapaport of The NFL Network is reporting that Fitz is in talks to join Amazon Prime for what he calls a "key role this season."

Rapaport teased what Fitz would wear for his first broadcast.

Andrew Marchand of The New York Post is reporting that it would be part of Amazon Prime's Thursday Night Football coverage and that fellow former Bills player, Marshawn Lynch would be part of that crew.

What a home run selection to be part of the NFL broadcast for Amazon. We don't know if it will be as a color commentator or studio analyst, but either way, I'm sure Bills fans will be thrilled he will stay on TV in that role.
